    Status/News

    Last fall I held the Tang Chun-i Visiting Professorship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.   On June 17, 2010, I gave the Ernst Robert Curtius Lecture at the University of Bonn. On October 15 I shall ecture at a symposium to mark the 200th anniversary of the Humboldt University in Berlin. On November 16 I will give the Vienna Circle Lecture at the University of Vienna.
    Research Interests

    I am now working on Husserl and Gödel’s views on the existence and knowability of mathematical entities., supported by the Templeton Foundation. 
    Short Bio

    I received my cand.mag. in mathematics, mechanics and astronomy at the University of Oslo in 1953, then studied mathematics in Göttingen 1954-55 and in Oslo 1955-57. In 1957 I went to Harvard to study philosophy, where I took my Ph.D. in 1961. After teaching at Harvard I returned to Norway, where I became professor at the University of Oslo in 1967 and that same year also at Stanford. From 1974 I have been C.I. Lewis Professor at Stanford. I retired from Oslo in 1999.
