Lecture 2:"Deaths of Despair and the Future of Capitalism"

Sir Angus Deaton, a senior scholar at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, will examine the wider social and economic forces that surround the epidemic of deaths from drug overdoses, alcoholic liver disease, and suicide. In addition to elevated death rates, those affected by the epidemic often experience increased morbidity and social isolation, as well as decreased marriage rates, religious involvement, democratic participation, wages, and labor participation.

This lecture will be followed by a response from Victor Fuchs, the Henry J. Kaiser Jr Professor Emeritus at Stanford University, in the Departments of Economics and Health Research and Policy.
