Lecture 1: “Deaths of Despair”

Anne Case, an emeritus professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton, will discuss the still-rising epidemic of deaths from drug overdoses, alcoholic liver disease, and suicide. These deaths have largely been confined to white non-Hispanics, particularly those without a university degree.

This lecture will be followed by a response from Lisa Berkman, director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies and the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy, Epidemiology, and Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
