A Linguistic Turn in the Philosophy of Normativity?

February 13, 2015 - 3:15pm to 5:00pm
Philosophy Building 90, room 92Q

Free and open to the public

The theory of deontic modality within linguistics offers an account of the meaning of normative terms including 'ought'. How far should this account influence the philosophy of normativity? Not far, I shall argue. Indeed, I shall also argue that the linguists' theory of deontic modality needs some correction from the philosophy of normativity.
