Title: The Spookiness of Metanormative Naturalism
Abstract: In metanormative theory, non-naturalist realism is widely held to involve something "spooky" or "weird" or "mysterious". By contrast, naturalist views - both realist and anti-realist - are supposed to avoid this spookiness; they "demystify" normativity by grounding it in the natural. Some non-naturalists push back by claiming that there is nothing spooky about non-naturalism after all. In this paper, I push back from the opposite direction. Granting that non-naturalist views are spooky, I argue that naturalist views at best inherit this spookiness, and at worst fully collapse into non-naturalism.
