Professor Satz Becomes Director of Center for Ethics

Professor Debra Satz, Marta Sutton Weeks Professor of Philosophy, became Director of the Bowen H. McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. The center is committed to bringing ethical reflection to bear on important social problems through research, teaching, and social engagement.

While being Director of the Center, Professor Satz will continue to teaching a range of courses on ethical issues at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. She is currently working on to main research projects. The first project concerns the basis and nature of the state's obligation to provide an education to its citizens. The second project is related to her forthcoming book, The Moral Limits of the Market (forthcoming, OUP, 2009). It concerns the relationship between markets and social altruism.
