Two Stanford Philosophers awarded 2025 APA Prizes
The Philosophy Department at Stanford University is pleased to announce that two of our esteemed colleagues have been honored with prestigious awards from the American Philosophical Association (APA) for the year 2025.
Ed Zalta has been awarded the 2025 Philip L. Quinn Prize by the American Philosophical Association. This distinguished award, established in memory of Philip L. Quinn (1940–2004), recognizes exceptional service to philosophy and philosophers, encompassing a broad spectrum of contributions. Dr. Zalta’s remarkable contributions to the field of philosophy, particularly through his work on the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, which stands as arguably the most comprehensive and valuable reference source in the field, have earned him this recognition. He joins the distinguished ranks of two other Stanford philosophers, Michael Bratman and John Perry, as recipients of the Quinn Prize.
Linda Eggert has been awarded the 2025 Frank Chapman Sharp Memorial Prize for her essay, “The Ethics of Defensive Harming and the Laws of War in the Shadow of Autonomous Weapons”. The Sharp Prize is awarded every two years to the best unpublished essay or monograph on the philosophy of war and peace submitted for the competition. Professor Eggert has won this award the last two times it has been given.
