Asian Philosophy Reading Group

Confucius Statue

Our group meets biweekly to discuss Asian Philosophy texts. This year (’23-’24), we will make our way through Philip Ivanhoe and Bryan Van Norden’s Readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy (Third Edition).

Our discussions are informal and wide-ranging. We aim mainly to understand the texts in their own right, though where relevant we also try to draw connections with traditions in Western Philosophy. No background knowledge in Asian philosophy or language is needed (all texts are read in translation).

For Winter ’24, our meetings are on Saturdays, 11am to 12.30pm, at 90-92Q. The planned schedule is below. For more information, please contact Juanhe (TJ) Tan at juanhe [at] stanford.edu (juanhe[at]stanford[dot]edu).
