Abstract:
In recent philosophy, rationality has not been clearly distinguished from normativity. Indeed, one aim of the 'reasons first' movement is to reduce rationality to normativity. The tendency to confuse the two is encouraged by the ambiguity of the noncount noun 'reason', which can refer to either. I shall disambiguate the terminology, and then argue against the reductive claim that rationality consists in responding correctly to reasons.
