Dissertation Title
Reconstructing Past Events: A Study of Engineering Failure Investigations
I'm a philosopher of science interested in the methods scientists use to construct causal explanations of unusual outcomes; for instance, I use case studies to examine how failure analysts reconstruct the causes of a plane crash, how epidemiologists reconstruct the causes of an epidemic, and how sociologists reconstruct the causes of mass incarceration in the United States. As a philosophy teacher, I have strong interests in effective pedagogy and in better curriculum designs that are of interest to students from diverse backgrounds.
